Scolium Editor to Retire

Thirteen years ago in the summer of 1995, Alex Heinonen, then Chapter President, came my (Bill Coe) home and said, "You are newly retired and don't have anything to do, how would you like to be the Chapter newsletter editor?" Even though I was already the Chapter Treasurer, with a little arm-twisting I agreed to try it. I started with the September 1995, issue of the Scholium. And I have been at it ever since. As your know, I have been the Chapter Treasurer even longer. I Feel that is the place that I can best serve you --- at least if you continue to want me. However, I have some needs for more time for personal family matters and I must reduce some of my volunteer time. I have concluded that I must relinquish the editorship of the newsletter.

I would like to thank all of the G.V.C. members who over the years have contributed information and ideas for the newsletter. I apologize for the prodding I did along the way to help meet production deadlines. Thanks to my wife, Edie, for her countless hours of proofreading.

Names such as Bonnie Way, Bob Kerr, Peter Mietus, Stephanie Lees, and Ernie Dankert come to mind when thinking of the people who have offered their organizations to actually print and produce the physical newsletters. For several years, there was the committee that met monthly at a company location to print, collate, fold, staple, label, stamp, and mail the hard copies. That function is now done by Mary Ellen Holvey and her mother.

With Peter Zavon's Xerox help, the newsletter is now converted to an Adobe pdf file and most of the distribution is by e-mail --- a chore now being filled by Bill Weidert.

Thanks again for the oppotunity to serve you and to do the really fun job of editing the newsletter. I wish good luck to my successor and will provide historical background for the previous issues.

Bill Coe, C.S.P.-Ret.
